Welcome Back Family and Friends! Our 1st Day of School will be on Tuesday, August 15th. A class list will be available on Monday, August 14th after 4:00PM. The class list will be posted on the school's main door and will be there temporarily. ***NO PHOTOS OF CLASS LISTS ARE ALLOWED*** Please no photographs of class lists or posting on any form of media. 5th Grade Fundraiser at Chipotle

 

Make dinner a selfless act by joining us for a fundraiser to support White Point Elementary School - 5th Grade CAMP CIMI Trip. Come in to the Chipotle at 940 N. Western Avenue Unit F in San Pedro on Sunday, March 26th between 2:00pm and 5:00pm. Bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier you’re supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to White Point Elementary School - 5th Grade CAMP CIMI Trip.

2016-2017 Top 10 - Million Word Readers

 

A shout out to White Point's Top 10 Million Word Club students. Students that read 1,000,000 words and test on the books read through the Reading Counts Program are in the Million Word Club. Every student that is in the Million Word Club receives a free book from the Spring Book Fair ($10.00 value). This is White Point's third year with the Million Word reward program. It is awesome to see the list growing longer and longer each year! Congrats to all the Millionaires!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this first time event! It was a blast and we are glad the kids had so much fun. Swing by the Court Yard to see a few letters written by Ms. Duvnjak's students about the Jog-A-Thon.

March News

PFO Newsletter went out today. Here it is in brief:

February’s Box Tops winner is 5th grader Joseph R. he won a White Point Spirit Shirt. Great job and congratulations! The next monthly drawing will be on March 31st and the Spring drawing for the classroom with the most submissions will be on April 28th.

This year’s Open House is on Friday, March 24th from 5pm – 6:30pm. Visit with the teachers, check out the science fair and get updates on PFO’s ongoing and future projects, events and goals.

PFO’s Monthly General Meeting was held today, in the White Point auditorium at 2:45pm.Please review your Agenda for details.

Friday, March 3rd is Fun Friday and Spirit Day! The lucky Spirit Wear winner will win tickets to the USC vs. Washington Men’s Basketball game, for this Saturday March 4th @ 3:30pm. Also, Jog-A-Thon donation monies are due and winners will be announced.

The Spring fundraiser is a short one through Yankee Candle. Brochures went home on Monday, February 27th and will only run till March 13th. For those participating, orders are due by Wednesday, March 15th.

A quick update on the status of the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council Neighborhood Purpose Grant, that we applied for at the beginning of this month. After presenting our request, we are pleased to hear that the board was very favorable and unanimously agreed to the grant. Thank you to Marisa Vattuone for her diligence and WAY TO GO PFO!

February News

It's hard to believe we are already halfway through the school year. As we approach our 100th day of school,  we can reflect on our accomplishments/achievements, possible improvements and future goals and resolutions. 

Looking ahead to the month of February, there are many exciting announcements and activities happening at White Point. Some of these activities include:

Events:  Pizza w/ the PFO!! PFO general meeting will be held on Feb. 2nd @ 6pm, at the White Point Auditorium. Come join us in our monthly meeting and enjoy some pizza. Please refer to the email sent with the attached meeting agenda, listing topics up for discussion.

BoxTops:  It wasn't announced on last month's newsletter, but the winner for December's Boxtops drawing is 1st grader Kaelynn Rhea, from Ms. Smith's class. The winner for January's drawing is 2nd grader Olivia Jones, from Mrs. Johnson's class. Both winners will receive tickets to the USC vs. Oregon State Men's Basketball game on Feb. 9th. Now to announce the winning classroom for the Fall/Winter drawing. The classroom with the largest submission of box tops, as of December 31st, is Ms. Philipopoulos's 2nd grade class. This lucky classroom has won themselves an ice cream party! 

Congratulations to all winners!! And remember......Keep turning in those BoxTops! Download the BoxTops Bonus app as well to get bonus earnings!

Construction Zones: The school is currently still under construction, so it's imperative we remember the school's traffic route and use the one-way driving pattern.  This includes the teachers' parking  lot, so please use caution and plan on street site parking.  In addition, kindergarten ramp is still under construction, as well. All drop off/pick up will continue to be from the big gate.

Fundraising Committee: We would like to welcome our new Fundraising Committee Chairperson Ms. Megan Ebers. She will be joining the PFO Board and heading up the Fundraising Committee. We have a dynamic Fundraising Committee  who work rigorously to coordinate and manage current and upcoming fundraising activities . If you have any questions or would like to join the fundraising committee, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Ebers at whitepointpfo@gmail.com.

Jog-A-Thon: One of  the upcoming activities the Fundraising Committee is currently working on is the Jog-A- Thon.  The event will be held on Feb. 22nd. Flyers will be sent out on Feb. 3rd.  On Feb. 17th, participating forms and pledges need to be submitted and pledge donations turned in by Mar.1st. More details to come...

Spring Fundraiser: Another upcoming fundraiser is the "Spring    

Fundraiser". This fundraiser will run from Feb. 27th - Mar. 10th. More details to follow as the  date approaches...

Open Board Positions: PFO is on a look out for a Board Vice President(s). Someone that will take the role as the ambassador for PFO and the school. We need someone that will second the President, preform in their absence and help lead the organization to fruitful endeavors and thrive. PFO is also on the lookout for an Event Coordinator Chairperson/people. Someone detail oriented and will be able to plan, organize and execute school events.

Student Council: In celebration of Valentine's Day, Student Council is selling Heart Grams from now until Feb. 8th, for $.50/each. Any one and everyone can send and receive grams. The more the merrier! So, support the Student Council and put a smile on someone's face, by purchasing a Heart Gram.

Welcome Back! 

We hope you all had a great Holiday Season and a wonderful New Year. We are looking forward to another productive and successful year and we couldn't have done it last year without your never-ending support and generosity. Thank you!

PFO would like to share with you some of the new things we have for this year and remind you of the on-going projects and fundraisers. This month's newsletter features the following: 

Construction Zones: Please remember the school's traffic pattern. We have A LOT of construction going on, so it's imperative that we use the one-way driving pattern. In addition, kindergarten ramp is still under construction. All drop off/pick up will be from the big gate. Teachers parking is also still under construction. Please use caution and plan on street site parking.

BoxTops: Keep turning in those BoxTops! Don't forget to download the BoxTops Bonus app as well to get bonus earnings!

If you haven't already, be sure to link your Vons - Just for U account with BoxTops to earn more for our school.

Fundraising Committee: PFO is on a look out for a Fundraising Chairperson to chair our current Fundraising Committee. We have a great and eager Fundraising Committee. We need someone to take the reins and lead them through fruitful and engaging fundraising opportunities. Grant Committee: We would like to welcome our new Grant Writing Chairperson Ms. Allison Weber. She will be joining the PFO Board and heading up the Grant Writing Committee. We have a fantastic Grant Committee who volunteer diligently in researching and writing grants for our nonprofit organization. Without that groups help, many of the funding PFO offers could not be possible. The PFO is hosting a scrumptious breakfast feast for White Point's hardworking teachers, staff and administrators and your support is needed to help make it a delicious success. We’re looking for all sorts of tasty contributions, from egg dishes, to bagels, to fruit, to juice, to brewing coffee, to pitching in with set up and clean up. Please check out this handy sign-up and fill in a spot. Let’s make this the perfect breakfast bash to start Winter Break.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser begins 12/05 - 12/13. Fundraising Committee: Krispy Kreme Fundraiser begins Monday, December 5th and will run through Monday, December 12th. A dozen of glazed will be sold for $10.00. Orders will be available for pick up during the holiday program on Thursday, December 15th. Hospitality Committee: Hospitality Committee will be selling concessions during the holiday program, $1.00 Krispy Kreme donuts and $1.00 Starbucks coffee. If you are available to help with concessions, please email Marisa Vattuone, Hospitality Chair at whitepointpfo@gmail.com.

Holiday Program: Thursday, December 15th is the Holiday Program and there will be 3 showings this year. 9:00AM, 10:30AM and 1:15PM. Please attend only one show. This will give everyone the opportunity to appreciate the program comfortably in a seat.

More Than a Meal

Unified’s district-wide campaign to promote the completion and submission of the 2016-17 LAUSD Meal Application (apply online at www.myschoolapps.com)or the Household Income Form for School Programs Funding. Which form a Parent/Guardian should complete depends on the school their child attends. Both can result in valuable resources being made available to schools.
